Had a fruitful discussion with Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji, Hon’ble Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India and conveyed my compliments to him for his pathbreaking and unprecedented reforms aimed at the end-to-end modernization of the Indian Railways, digital empowerment, enhancing connectivity, good governance, and transparency. In particular, I commended him for successfully resolving the production deadlock for Vande Bharat and releasing the largest freight wagon contract for the Indian Railways. I also appreciated his deft handling of the spectrum sale and the smooth and transparent rollout of 5G, along with the introduction of a $10 billion incentive package to kick-start semiconductor production in India.

Furthermore, I was delighted to learn about his vision for rolling out India’s first hydrogen-powered train by the end of 2023, as well as his promotion of solar energy applications in the railways.

As the Chairman of The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation – SCO Business Council Secretariat, I am actively engaging with Member States (India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), Dialogue Partners (Nepal, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, etc.) and Observer States (Mongolia, Belarus, Iran, and Afghanistan). During our discussion, I requested Minister Vaishnaw to address and motivate these nations at the upcoming meeting of The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation – SCO Business Council. This presents a significant opportunity for our nation to resolve infrastructure and development issues from a leadership position, especially in India’s endeavor to become the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturing destination by 2028 by fostering the right ecosystem.
