Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari said that self-reliance in Defence is of vital importance because of both strategic and economic reasons. After careful consideration and in consultation with all stakeholders, the Government put forth a Defence Production Policy. The objective of this policy is to harness the emerging dynamism of the Indian industry along with the capabilities available in academia as well as research and development institutions in order to realize the much-awaited dream of self-reliance in the design, development and production of equipment/weapon systems/platforms required for defence. Undoubtedly the dream could not have been possible without the industrial and technological growth in the past decades but the recent acceleration in the efforts towards this direction is exemplary.
